A leadscrew (or lead screw), also known as a power screw or translation screw, is a screw used as a linkage in a machine, to translate turning motion into linear motion.

Standard series ground ball screws are used in the widest range of applications. These products have a compact design, low running noise and high speed. Ground ball screws are supplied in many different designs, in varying degrees of precision, with different clearances and with machined or unmachined shaft ends.

Lead screws are threaded bars of metal and a threaded nut which is in direct contact with the screw; this generates sliding friction as opposed to rolling friction from other alternative devices (such as a ball screw). Rotational motion will turn the screw, causing the nut to move along in a linear motion.
